Starting Situations Currently I wonder about how one might start in the game. Will the character be very important, or be a regular joe? It is said for the Sith Warrior one will start out as the apprentice of a powerful Lord, but what of others? How will a Bounty Hunter or Smuggler start, as the lowest of lows. A Jedi would start as a padawan, but truly how low does one start at, or how high? Will a player start with a decent amount of abilities, and possibilities of exploration, or will it be more level based. Will a republic Trooper start out simply on guard duty, or will they start out in the midst of a large scale assult? A Smuggler starting out doing regular shipments, or taking the Solo route and getting mixed with some large scale criminals right off the bat. Hopefully there will be a nice middleground, where one will be able to enjoy the game, and feel like an individual, but realize they are still a "noob" in the game. Often when playing an MMO, at the start I either feel, I am too strong for such a low level, or that I am too weak while still at the bottom.
as Star Wars Galaxies back in the day when I played, one simply started with a set of clothes. While in games like WoW, certain classes will start out with specific weapons, and a Death Knight will start off in full armor. I would understand a Trooper starting with a suit of armor, or a training outfit if that is how the game begins. I would definitely see a Sith or Jedi starting with a robe among other things, and Smugglers starting with some sub-par gear. A bounty hunter I am unsure about though, since they really would have to buy or find their armor, so I still ponder about them. If anyone has any idea of starting gear feel free to leave a comment, I'm always open to discussion. With the idea of companions as I went over before, how early into the game will they be used? As in games like Kotor and Kotor 2 you will have your starter ones, then as you progress you get more variety. Such as in Kotor 1 you get a character who acts as a training companion. Personally, I would find a training companion to be useful. A Sith who is experience working with you on your first few missions, same for Trooper, Jedi. A Smuggler I could see your starting missions explaining a trainer as simply another person who is hired to work with you, and knows more so they give you pointers, same for Bounty Hunter. Though, hopefully all the companion trainers won't leave for the same reason Trask did, or not leave at all.
I apologise foir the short one this week, but a lot of things have been getting in the way in my life, next week I'll make a longer one to make up for it. Feel free to leave comments. blog comments powered by Disqus |
It can also be wondered just how leveling will go. It has been said the it won't be as simple of questing as, go get 20 of these from this NPC, but that does bring up the question of how quests can really differ from such patterns. Back in the game Star Wars Galaxies, I remember a time which called for me to have to kill worts. But, I needed an item that would never drop, and I began to harbor a hatred for the creatures. After finally getting the amount of drops I needed, I had counted well over 300 worts killed. From then on in my spare time when I was on the game and had nothing to do, I simply ran around slaughtering worts even when I was at a high level. To this day they haunt my dreams. Hopefully such quests will not exist, though personally I don't mind quests of such designs, as long as they aren't too common, or have crazy drop rates. Hopefully Bioware will deliver on quests/missions. Since after playing many MMO's in the past, they all get boring even when starting out because of the common style.
